README FILE FOR MARS TES PROCESSED DATA Type of data: Infrared spectra of Mars, observed from above the atmosphere Instrument: Mars Global Surveyor, Thermal Emission Spectrometer (TES) Original data source: These files were extracted from the TES CD-ROM MGST_0156, which is one of the hundred or so CD-ROM's covering the mission. Data volumes in the same format to those that have been processed to make the files in this directory can be downloaded from http://pds-geosciences.wustl.edu/missions/mgs/tes-tsdr.html though the early orbits (including the 0156 volume used here) seem to be not online. Processed data: Each file contans a time series of spectra taken from orbit, looking down at various points on the surface of Mars. There is one spectrum per line. The files have been subsetted so that they each one contains only data or times when the estimated surface temperature is near a given value (e.g. 220K for TES220.out). This makes the spectra easier to interpret. Each line contains metadata describing the latitude and longitude of the target point,as well as the subsolar latitude and longitude. These files can be read using the script readTES.py, in the Chapter 4 scripts directory This directory also contains wavenumber tables in the files of the form wavenumXX.tab All the files are ASCII text
