• Prof. Emeritus Douglas MacAyeal’s new research paper sheds light on Antarctic Ice Sheet’s health

  “It’s looking very likely that this process explains the collapse of the Larsen B Ice Shelf,” added Doug MacAyeal, University of Chicago Prof. Emeritus of Geophysical Sciences and co-author on the paper—referring to a notorious 2002 event in which more than 1,000 square miles of Antarctic ice collapsed into the ocean in a matter of weeks.

  Professor Nicolas Dauphas has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences. Members are elected in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research. Membership in the Academy is among the highest honors a scientist can achieve.

• Alum Megan Mansfield to Join Tenure Track at University of Maryland

  April 23, 2024

  Department alum Megan Mansfield (PhD 2021) will be joining the University of Maryland as an Assistant Professor next year. Her new group will focus broadly on the spectroscopic characterization of transiting exoplanet atmospheres. Congratulations, Megan!
