Workshop: objectives
Teaching Weather and Climate Using Laboratory Experiments
To discuss these issues we organized a 2.5 day workshop at the University of Chicago, June 18-20, 2008. The purpose of the workshop was to:
- share experiences and ideas in the effective use of laboratory experiments in the teaching of weather and climate--what works, what does not work?
- discuss associated curricula materials that have been developed for use with laboratory experiments.
- discuss whether and how such teaching methods can become more widespread in our universities and schools.
There were over 40 participants from seven countries, including the following invited speakers: Claudia Cenedese (WHOI), Glenn Flierl (MIT), Scott Kittelman (U Colorado), Ruby Krishnamurti (FSU), Peter Read (Oxford), Peter Rhines (U Washington), Satoshi Sakai (Kyoto), Jack Whitehead (WHOI).
The list of participants and contacts (in pdf fie) can be downloaded from here (password protected).
The workshop turned out to be a very lively meeting, with a wide range of discussion and demonstrations. See summary and gallery pages for more details.
