Logan Square Invitational Bocce Tournament Rules
(Adapted from the Pavliscak Invitational Bocce Tournament of Blue Mounds, Wisconsin)
Object
The object of the game of bocce is for one team or player to get as many
of their balls closer to the pallino than the opposing team's/player's closest ball.
Play
- There are 4 players to a match. All players play for individual wins and points/frame ratio.
- Each player will play 2 balls of his or her color in a match with 3 other entrants
- Frames are played until 1 player has 10 points. This concludes a match.
- Bowling order for the first frame is determined by rock, paper, scissors or by mutual agreement.
- The first bowler throws the pallino and then rolls his/her first ball as close to the pallino as possible.
- It is now up to the opposing players to roll a ball closer to the pallino then the first player.
- A player's turn ends when they have the closest ball or they run out of balls.
- It is permissible for a player to roll his/her ball as to knock the opponent's ball away
from the pallino. Likewise, a player may knock the pallino toward his/her own ball. The pallino is playable anywhere on the playing surface.
- A frame ends when all balls are played.
- The player that scores in a frame starts the next frame by throwing out the pallino and playing their first ball.
Scoring
- When all balls have been played, this concludes the frame and ONE player
is awarded one point for each of his/her balls which is closer to the pallina then the closest opposing player's ball. Thus a player may score 1 or 2 points per frame. The other 3 get 0 points.
- A tie in closest ball placement results in no points.
- Close calls: The host can make decisions in close calls or one of the two other players in the frame can step off the measurement.
Awards!
- Players must play at least 3 matches to be eligible for awards.
- Grand Champion: The player with (1) the most wins and (in case of tie) the best points/frame ratio will receive the Grand Champion Award.
- Formmidable Opponent: TBD number of awards for other high scores.
- Stylish Performance: criteria TBD by Host. Typically: best dressed!
