Cindy (Xi) Chen successfully defended her Ph.D thesis on January 10th titled “Tracing planetary differentiation processes using Zr and Hf isotopic variations”. Cindy’s committee was Nicolas Dauphas, Andrew Campbell, Andrew Davis, and Jacob Waldbauer.
What’s next for Dr. Chen? She will start a position as a research scientist in an analytical lab working for the pharmaceutical industry in North Carolina. Congrats again!

Associate Professor Edwin Kite and graduate student Sasha Warren will join the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity rover Science Team in April. Kite's work as a Participating Scientist will focus on linking rover observations with models of timing and flow of surface and subsurface waters. Both Kite and Warren will also contribute to daily operational work on the mission.

The Packard Fellowships in Science and Engineering are among the nation’s largest nongovernmental fellowships, designed to allow maximum flexibility in how the funding is used. Since 1988, this program has supported the blue-sky thinking of scientists and engineers whose research over time has led to new discoveries that improve people’s lives and enhance our understanding of the universe. Congrats to Francois Tissot, a UChicago alum. And while we're at it, Mark Levin also recieved the honor as part of UChicago Department of Chemistry.
