The Department of the Geophysical Sciences at the University of Chicago invites applications for teaching positions at the rank of Assistant Instructional Professor. Appointments at this rank are for a term of up to three years with the possibility of renewal. This is a career-track position with potential progression and competitive salary and benefits. Expected start date is September 1, 2024.
Position responsibilities include teaching up to six courses per year, contributions to the effective functioning of departmental programs of instruction, and ongoing professional development.

Prof. Tiffany Shaw and National Center for Atmospheric Research scientist Osamu Miyawaki present new research that suggests that as the world warms upper level jet streams winds will get faster.
“The increase is multiplicative—about 2% per degree—rather than linear,” said Shaw. “Thus, not only does it go up over time, the steeper the contrast you start with, the larger the increase you get—leading to fast winds getting faster.”
