Assistant Prof. Clara Blättler was interviewed in a UChicago News piece highlighting her recent paper on fluid flow through the Maldives carbonate platform. She and her co-authors determined that seawater from the Last Glacial Maximum is preserved in the edifice, and that it was heavier and saltier than previously thought. Congratulations, Prof. Blättler!

Assistant Professor Malte Jansen and Associate Professor Dorian Abbot represented the department at the 90th anniversary celebration of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at Peking University (PKU). Our department has a strong connection with atmospheric sciences at PKU. For example, Yongyun Hu, who earned his PhD in our department in 2000 is the chair of atmospheric sciences at PKU, which is one of the most important positions in atmospheric sciences in China.

A recent publication by Postdoc Zhihong Tan, Prof. Tiffany Shaw and Dr. Orli Lachmy of the Open University of Israel was featured in an AGU Research spotlight! The authors proposed a new longwave radiation heirarchy for use in GCMs that better predict the response of midlatitude jets to climate change. Congratulations to all!
